Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx) document file format.
  • The manuscript must follow the journal template, style guidelines, and required citation format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • Maximum similarity index of 20% (It is better if the manuscript has been checked first)
  • The email address used is active and valid.
  • The contributor/author form must be completed fully and accurately according to each author’s identity.
  • Manuscript metadata must be completed in both Indonesian and English in the provided fields.

Author Guidelines

Belajar Bahasa: Scientific Journal of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program

1. Introduction

Belajar Bahasa is an academic journal managed by the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program and published by Universitas Muhammadiyah Jember. The journal is published twice a year, in February and September.

The journal focuses on research and/or literature studies in the field of Indonesian language and literature education, Indonesian linguistics, and Indonesian literature.

2. Title, Author Names, and Affiliations

  1. The manuscript title should appear at the top center of the first page. Titles must be informative, clear, and without ambiguity. Titles should not exceed 13 words, capitalize the first letter, and avoid uncommon abbreviations. Use Times New Roman 14 pt, bold.

  2. Author names (without academic degrees) and affiliations should follow the title. Keywords (3–5) should be arranged alphabetically.

  3. Multiple authors: the first author is listed first, followed by the second, third, etc., separated by commas. For names with two or more words, do not abbreviate the first name. Single-word names should be written as-is. In online versions, names will be repeated to ensure proper metadata indexing.


3. General Manuscript Guidelines

  1. Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under review elsewhere.

  2. Manuscripts must not contain plagiarism. Manuscripts with ≥20% plagiarism will be rejected.

  3. Manuscripts must follow the Belajar Bahasa template (Microsoft Word) and be submitted via Open Journal System (OJS).

  4. Non-conforming manuscripts will be returned before peer review.

  5. Subheadings (Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusions) should use Arabic numerals starting from 1 and should not be bold.

  6. Manuscripts must be on A4 paper with margins: Left 25 mm, Right 20 mm, Top 30 mm, Bottom 20 mm.

  7. Text: Times New Roman 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing, single column.

  8. Foreign words must be italicized.

  9. Figures must be numbered, with captions below. Tables must be numbered, with captions above. All figures, tables, and charts should be centered.

  10. Authors may include concise acknowledgments.


4. Manuscript Structure

Title

  • Clear, informative, ≤13 words, reflecting research. Times New Roman 14 pt, bold.

Abstract

  • 150–250 words in Indonesian and English, followed by 3–5 keywords.

Introduction

  • Background, research problem, rationale, and significance. (Times New Roman 12 pt, 1.15 spacing)

Research Methods

  • Methodology, procedures, instruments, data collection, and analysis methods.

Discussion

  • Present results with tables, charts, or figures; interpret findings logically and link to recent references.

Conclusions

  • Summarize results, refer to objectives, and highlight key findings.

Acknowledgments (Optional)

  • Brief, concise, and clear.

References

  • Include only cited sources; ≥60% must be primary sources (scientific journals) from the last 10 years.


5. Citation and Reference Guidelines

  • All borrowed ideas or text must be cited.

  • Recommended software: Mendeley, Zotero, or similar.

  • Style: APA (American Psychological Association) Style.


6. Online Manuscript Submission via OJS 3

Authors must submit manuscripts via Open Journal Systems (OJS) version 3:

  1. Registration/Login: Create an account and log in on the Belajar Bahasa portal. Select the role of Author. Profile data (full name, affiliation, short biography) must be completed in Indonesian and English.

  2. New Submission: Click New Submission and follow five steps:
    a. Start – check all submission requirements.
    b. Upload Manuscript – upload the main manuscript in .doc/.docx format according to the template.
    c. Enter Metadata – complete article metadata accurately, including title, abstract, keywords, and author details (name, affiliation, country) in both English and Indonesian.
    d. Confirmation – review the accuracy and completeness of all information.
    e. Next Steps – finalize submission until the system confirms successful submission.
