Publication Ethics

AGRITROP: Journal of Agricultural Sciences is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics, research integrity, and responsible scholarly communication. This statement defines the ethical responsibilities of authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher in maintaining a trustworthy scholarly record.

AGRITROP follows the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing to ensure fair, transparent, objective, and ethical publication processes (COPE, Core Practices).

Duties and Responsibilities of Authors
Reporting Standards

Authors must present accurate, original, and objective accounts of their research. Manuscripts should contain sufficient information, methodological details, and references to allow appropriate evaluation and reproducibility of the research.

Fabrication, falsification, selective reporting, manipulation of data, or misleading presentation of research findings constitutes unethical behavior and is unacceptable.

Originality, Plagiarism, and Acknowledgement of Sources

Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts represent original work.

All sources, ideas, data, methods, and words from other works must be appropriately acknowledged and cited. Plagiarism, including inappropriate text recycling and self-plagiarism without proper disclosure, is considered a serious violation of publication ethics.

AGRITROP follows COPE principles regarding originality, plagiarism prevention, and responsible use of previously published materials (COPE, Core Practices).

Authorship and Contributions

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to:

  • The conception or design of the research;
  • Data acquisition, analysis, or interpretation;
  • Drafting or critically revising the manuscript;
  • Approval of the final manuscript version;
  • Accountability for all aspects of the published work.

Individuals who contributed to the research but do not meet authorship criteria should be appropriately acknowledged.

AGRITROP follows COPE authorship principles and recommends transparent contribution statements using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) (CRediT, Contributor Roles Taxonomy).

Data Availability and Research Transparency

Authors are encouraged to retain original research data and provide access to supporting information where appropriate. Authors should include a Data Availability Statement whenever possible to promote transparency, reproducibility, and responsible research practices.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Authors may use artificial intelligence tools as supportive instruments for activities such as language improvement, editing, or data assistance, provided that such use is disclosed and does not replace human intellectual contribution.

AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility, approve the final manuscript, or respond to ethical concerns regarding the published work.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and validity of all submitted content (COPE, Authorship and AI Tools).

Duties and Responsibilities of Editors
Publication Decisions

Editors are responsible for making publication decisions based on scientific quality, originality, significance, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, and relevance to the journal scope.

Peer Review Management

Editors are responsible for ensuring manuscripts undergo fair, objective, confidential, and appropriate peer review by qualified reviewers with relevant expertise (COPE, Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers).

Handling Misconduct

Editors will respond appropriately to allegations involving plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, image manipulation, citation manipulation, authorship misconduct, peer-review manipulation, or paper mill activities following COPE guidance (COPE, Core Practices).

Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers
  • Maintain confidentiality of submitted manuscripts.
  • Provide objective, constructive, evidence-based, and respectful reviews.
  • Identify relevant unpublished or uncited work and ethical concerns.

Research Misconduct

AGRITROP takes allegations of research and publication misconduct seriously, including plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, image manipulation, citation manipulation, improper authorship, undisclosed conflicts of interest, peer-review manipulation, and paper mill activities.

All allegations are investigated fairly, confidentially, and according to COPE principles (COPE, Core Practices).

AGRITROP maintains the accuracy of the scholarly record through transparent post-publication actions including corrections, addenda, expressions of concern, and retractions according to COPE recommendations (COPE, Retraction Guidelines).
