Journal History

ELLITE: Journal of English Language, Literature, and Teaching, published by Universitas Muhammadiyah Jember, launched its inaugural issue in May 2016 as a dedicated forum for scholarly exchange in English studies. During its foundational years, the journal was managed internally by the English Language Education Study Program. Following more than two years of steady publication growth, its governance and operational oversight were formally transitioned in 2019 to the central management of the Universitas Muhammadiyah Jember Journal Center (Pusat Jurnal). This institutional restructuring strengthened the journal's editorial independence, infrastructural sustainability, and publishing standards in direct alignment with the COPE Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.
In recognition of its consistent publication track record, ELLITE achieved national accreditation from the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia as a SINTA 5 (Science and Technology Index) journal for the 2017–2020 period. Driven by systematic enhancements in editorial workflow, rigorous peer-review protocols, and adherence to the COPE Core Principles, the journal submitted a re-accreditation application in 2021 and successfully advanced two tiers to secure SINTA 3 accreditation status, which it proudly maintains to date. Through ongoing strategic improvements—including board diversification, ethical oversight, and stricter manuscript selectivity governed by COPE's Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers—ELLITE is actively positioned to elevate its scholarly impact.
