Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
Jurnal Manajemen dan Bisnis Indonesia recognizes the rapid development and integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, including Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs), in academic research and manuscript preparation. To maintain the integrity of the scholarly record, the journal strictly adheres to the ethical guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
1. Authorship and Accountability
-
AI Cannot Be an Author: Generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Jasper) cannot take responsibility for the submitted work, nor can they hold intellectual property rights or understand ethical standards. Therefore, AI tools do not meet the requirements for authorship and must not be listed as an author on any submitted manuscript, in strict accordance with the COPE Position Statement on Authorship and AI Tools.
-
Human Accountability: The human authors remain entirely responsible for all content produced by AI tools, including its accuracy, integrity, and originality. Authors must ensure there is no plagiarism or hallucinated data in the AI-generated text, as authors are fully accountable for any ethical breaches in the published work, as mandated by the COPE Authorship Guidelines.
2. Disclosure and Transparency
-
Mandatory Declaration: If authors use AI tools for data collection, analysis, text generation, image creation, or substantial editing beyond basic grammar checking, they must transparently disclose this usage. This disclosure should detail which tool was used and how it was applied within the manuscript's Methods or Acknowledgments section, fulfilling the transparency requirements outlined in the COPE Position Statement on Authorship and AI Tools.
-
AI-Generated Images and Data: The use of AI to generate or manipulate images, figures, or data sets is strictly prohibited unless it is an explicit part of the research design or methodology, which must be thoroughly justified and declared in the manuscript.
3. AI in the Peer Review Process
-
Reviewer Restrictions: Peer reviewers and editors must treat all submitted manuscripts as highly confidential documents. Uploading a submitted manuscript, in whole or in part, into an AI tool (such as an LLM) to generate a review or summary is strictly prohibited. This constitutes a severe breach of confidentiality and intellectual property rights, in direct violation of the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers.
-
Editor and Reviewer Accountability: While editors may use specialized, journal-approved AI tools for administrative screening (e.g., plagiarism detection via Turnitin), the final evaluation and decision-making regarding the scientific merit of a manuscript must be conducted by human editors and peer reviewers.
