Allegation of Research Misconduct

Jurnal Manajemen dan Bisnis Indonesia takes all allegations of research and publication misconduct very seriously. The editorial board is committed to upholding the integrity of the scholarly record and will act promptly and decisively to investigate any concerns raised regarding manuscripts under review or published articles. This policy is structured in strict adherence to the standards established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Definition of Research Misconduct

Research misconduct encompasses any fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, or other practices that seriously deviate from those that are commonly accepted within the academic community for proposing, conducting, or reporting research. As mandated by the COPE Core Practices regarding Allegations of Misconduct, Jurnal Manajemen dan Bisnis Indonesia has a clear mandate to take action if they suspect misconduct or if an allegation is brought to their attention. This mandate applies to both published and unpublished papers.

2. Obligation to Act

The editors of Jurnal Manajemen dan Bisnis Indonesia have a solemn duty to act upon every allegation or suspicion of misconduct.
  • Investigative Responsibility: Editors will not simply reject papers that raise concerns about possible misconduct; rather, they are ethically obligated to pursue the issue, referring to the appropriate COPE Flowcharts for handling suspected misconduct to ensure a systematic and fair investigation process.
  • Whistleblower Protection: The journal encourages anyone (including peer reviewers, authors, or readers) to raise concerns and will protect the anonymity of whistleblowers whenever possible, ensuring that allegations are treated with appropriate confidentiality and seriousness, as advised by the COPE guidelines on responding to anonymous whistleblowers.

3. Investigation Procedures

When a concern is raised, the editorial board will follow a structured process:
  • Initial Assessment: The Editor-in-Chief will conduct an initial assessment of the validity and severity of the allegation.
  • Author Communication: If the concern appears valid, the editors will first seek a response from those suspected of misconduct. The corresponding author will be contacted and given the opportunity to provide an explanation, relevant data, or evidence to address the concerns, following the protocols outlined in the COPE Flowcharts.
  • Institutional Involvement: If the authors' response is unsatisfactory or if the alleged misconduct is severe (such as data fabrication or severe plagiarism), the editors will contact the authors' employers, institutions, or funding bodies, requesting them to conduct a formal investigation, in accordance with the COPE Guidelines on Cooperation between Research Institutions and Journals. The journal itself does not conduct formal misconduct investigations but rather relies on the authors' institutions to do so.

4. Correcting the Literature (Post-Publication Misconduct)

If an investigation concludes that research misconduct has occurred in an article already published in Jurnal Manajemen dan Bisnis Indonesia, the journal is committed to correcting the academic record promptly.
  • Retractions and Expressions of Concern: The journal will issue a formal Retraction for articles where the findings are unreliable due to misconduct. If an investigation is prolonged or inconclusive, but significant concerns remain, the journal may issue an Expression of Concern. Both actions will be executed in strict compliance with the COPE Retraction Guidelines.
