About the Journal

TARLIM: Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam is a peer-reviewed scientific journal managed by the Department of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and published regularly by Universitas Muhammadiyah Jember. Established in response to the growing need to accelerate research in Islamic education, TARLIM serves as an academic platform for publishing transformative ideas, empirical research findings, and critical scholarly perspectives from lecturers, researchers, and educational practitioners across Indonesia.

TARLIM began its publication journey in March 2018 with its inaugural issue (Volume 1, Number 1), presenting 7 selected scientific articles. In the same year, TARLIM demonstrated its editorial consistency by publishing Volume 1, Number 2 in September 2018, featuring another 7 quality papers. Entering its second year, Volume 2, Number 1 (March 2019) expanded its author outreach by involving 8 contributors from various public and private universities across Indonesia.

TARLIM’s continuous commitment to maintaining quality publication standards and journal governance achieved significant recognition. On December 13, 2019, TARLIM was officially accredited with SINTA 5 rank by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, based on Decree No. 36/E/KPT/2019 regarding the Scientific Journal Accreditation Ratings for Period VII Year 2019. Driven by a dedication to continuous quality improvement, TARLIM successfully upgraded its accreditation status to SINTA 4 via the ARJUNA portal on October 3, 2022 (Decree No. 204/E/KPT/2022 concerning the Scientific Journal Accreditation Ratings for Period II Year 2022).

To align with modern digital publishing technology and global indexing standards, TARLIM undertook a major system migration in 2023, transitioning from Open Journal Systems 2 (OJS 2) to OJS 3. This migration was accompanied by comprehensive enhancements, including updated layout designs, a refreshed journal cover, and modernized article templates to offer a superior user experience for authors, reviewers, and readers.

As part of its ongoing adaptation to international scientific writing standards, TARLIM again revised and refined its article template in 2027. This update was designed to strengthen the structural clarity of published articles, facilitate seamless citation tracking, and reinforce TARLIM’s identity as a prominent, competitive, and reputable journal in the field of Islamic Religious Education.

Tarlim: Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal that publishes original research articles and scientific studies in the field of Islamic Education. The journal is managed by the Department of Islamic Education, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Muhammadiyah Jember, and is published by Universitas Muhammadiyah Jember. Tarlim is published biannually, in March and September, and carries P-ISSN 2615-7225 and E-ISSN 2621-847X.

All manuscripts submitted through the Tarlim Open Journal Systems (OJS) undergo an initial screening conducted by the editorial team, including both internal and external editors. During this stage, the editors evaluate the manuscript's compliance with the journal's focus and scope, adherence to the author guidelines and manuscript template, and the similarity index using plagiarism detection software. Manuscripts with a similarity index below 24% and that meet all editorial requirements proceed to the peer-review stage.

Eligible manuscripts are then evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process, in which reviewers assess the originality, scientific contribution, methodological rigor, data analysis, discussion, and overall quality of the manuscript. The identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential throughout the review process.

Based on the reviewers' recommendations, a manuscript may receive one of the following editorial decisions: Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject. If revisions are required, the manuscript will be returned to the author through the OJS platform. Authors are expected to revise the manuscript in accordance with the reviewers' comments and resubmit the revised version via the journal's online submission system.

After a manuscript is accepted for publication, it proceeds through the stages of copyediting, layout editing, proofreading, and final editorial approval before being published in the scheduled issue of Tarlim: Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam.
